Too Much Legislation

Reason #10 To Vote For Me

I think the Vermont Legislature legislates too much. It seems as though they feel they have to justify all that time in Montpelier by addressing things that only they see as problems.

I'll push for using the bi-annual session the way the founders intended.  Individual legislators will only be able to introduce bills in the first year of the session.  Each committee would pick no more than three pieces of priority legislation to focus on. The legislature should go back to adopting a two-year budget in the first year of the session.

During the second year of the session legislators would focus on any adjustments needed to the budget and on bills introduced by either the governor or the speaker of the house.  This is the way business was done until recent years.  Under my proposal, both the guv and the speaker would each be limited to introducing no more than three bills.
